MAJOR RIVERS

The Orange River is the country?s longest river, originating in the highlands of Lesotho. Flowing in a northwesterly direction for approximately 2 100km (1 300 miles), it flows into the Atlantic Ocean at Alexander Bay. The Orange River forms the South African border with Namibia.
The Vaal River has its origins near the Swaziland border and flows in a southwesterly direction across the country to the Northern Cape where it joins the Orange River.
The Limpopo River forms the boundary between South Africa and Zimbabwe. The river flows into the Indian Ocean in Mozambique.
