Established in 1873. The Tswana people of the Free State have made Thaba 'Nchu their home for more than 180 years. The town is 70km east of Bloemfontein, named after Thaba 'Nchu Mountain (2 138m), once the stronghold of the Baralong tribe during the 19th century.
